Silvia Mera, Program Director, The Mekong Club

In her current role of Program Director of the Mekong Club, Silvia Mera is involved in several anti-trafficking initiatives in Asia-Pacific, which she helps shape, develop and promote. Her role and responsibilities include project management, coordination of a business association, supervision and mentoring of interns and volunteers and advocacy for the cause of ending modern slavery.

Silvia has been involved in anti-trafficking work since 2015, covering areas such as migrant labour recruitment, financial transnational crime, supply chain transparency, remediation protocols, best practice sharing, and risk assessment. Silvia works directly with multinational corporations such as HSBC, Bank of America, Adidas, Lidl and H&M to support and advise them on their anti-trafficking policies and practices. Silvia is also involved in regional activities with partners such as the United Nations University and Thomson Reuters Foundation.

From 2011 to 2015, Silvia worked in business development and supply chain management, coordinating vendors and business opportunities in Hong Kong, China, Russia, India and Taiwan for an Italian fashion brand. Before moving to Hong Kong in 2011 following an exciting job opportunity, Silvia worked in international event management and interned at the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Tourism in Rome.

Silvia holds a master’s degree with honours in international relations and a bachelor’s degree in political science with honours from LUISS Guido Carli university in Rome, a post-graduate master in international trading from the Italian Trade Agency, and an executive certificate in corporate social responsibility from the University of Hong Kong.
