Cinderella von Dungern, Emerging Market Sustainability Dialogues (EMSD) China Coordinator, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)
Dr. Cinderella von Dungern is the China Coordinator of the Emerging Market Sustainability Dialogues (EMSD), in charge of all China-related activities of the EMSD. Some of the core activities in Asia include developing and implementing sustainability guidelines for Chinese outbound investments in the mining, infrastructure and textile industry. EMSD was initiated and is facilitated by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-financed by the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID).
Before joining EMSD/GIZ, Dr. von Dungern has rooted her professional career in the finance and business sector. She holds a PhD in business administration from the University of St. Gallen, where she also worked as research assistant and lecturer for East Asia Studies. Following her academic career, Dr. von Dungern first worked at a traditional Swiss private bank as a personal advisor to the managing partner. During her subsequent employments she was engaged in fiscal policy issues at a Swiss business federation and in the consulting business for financial services. Her interest in industries led her into the railway and logistics sector, where she was the CFO of a medium-sized family-owned company. In the recent past, Dr. von Dungern worked as consultant for capacity building, controlling and change management in the agricultural, retail, banking and for non-profit organizations. She also built up a small German charitable foundation which raises awareness for the topic “Modern day slavery and human trafficking in the 21st century”.
