Anna-Karin Jatfors, UN Women Deputy Regional Director at Regional Office for Asia-Pacific

Anna-Karin Jatfors is the Deputy Regional Director at the UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, where she provides programmatic and operational oversight to ensure the effective delivery of results, particularly for the East and South-East Asia project portfolio. She also engages in technical advisory services and capacity-building to facilitate the development, implementation and monitoring of policies and programmes.

Before taking on this role, Anna-Karin served as the Regional Programme Manager for Ending Violence against Women and the Asia-Pacific Campaign Manager for the Secretary-General’s UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign. In this capacity, she supported the development, implementation and monitoring of policies and programmes to prevent and respond to violence against women, and coordinated a range of networks, strategic partnerships and research initiatives.

A national of Sweden, Anna-Karin has more than 15 years’ experience working on policy and programming related to women’s and children’s rights, combined with a background in communications and advocacy. Prior to joining UN Women, she served for five years with UNICEF - first as a Gender and Development Officer in New York and later as a Child Protection Specialist in Indonesia, where she worked on addressing abuse, violence and exploitation against children. She has also worked as project director with a group of media companies and as a communications consultant with the Alliance for Financial Inclusion. Anna-Karin holds a Master's degree in International Politics from the Centre Européen de Recherches Internationales et Stratégiques (CERIS) in Brussels, Belgium, and a Bachelor's Degree in International Studies from American University in Washington, D.C.
