Assessing the effectiveness and impact of social enterprises
Social enterprises use and adapt business strategies to advance positive social and environmental outcomes. Social enterprises are characterised by innovation and mission-driven, focusing on much more than just individual profit. Companies in Asia in turn are increasingly investing time and resources partnering with social enterprises, similar to how they would partner with not-for-profit and charitable organisations. Do companies apply the same sets of assessment and due diligence tools on social enterprises as they do for NGOs? Or do we need a different set of criteria to evaluate the effectiveness of social enterprises, that takes into account other business aspects such as longer term financial viability, scalability and profitability of the social enterprise in addition to meeting social goals? This session will explore the different ways of measuring the effectiveness and impact of social enterprises.
