Darrel Webber, Secretary General, Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil
 |
Darrel Webber joined the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) as Secretary General in January 2011. Darrel brings with him close to 20 years of experience with reputable multinational organizations.
With prior working experience in an international environmental NGO and the private sector, Webber is geared to lead RSPO, a not-for-profit association that unites stakeholders from seven sectors of the palm oil industry – namely oil palm producers, palm oil processors or traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks and investors, environmental or nature conservation NGOs and social or developmental NGOs – with a goal to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil.
Having assumed accountabilities that entailed in-depth knowledge of the palm oil industry as well as environmental and sustainability aspects, Webber is well positioned to provide strategic insights on the significance of sustainable palm oil amidst an expanding environmentally and socially conscious world.

Paul Hoff, Director of Business Development, Asia, FTSE Group

Mr. Hoff has worked for FTSE Group (FTSE) since opening the Tokyo office in 2003. In his role at FTSE Group, Mr. Hoff oversees business development working with asset owners, consultants and institutions across Asia to provide benchmark solutions that support investment processes.
Prior to joining FTSE Group, Mr. Hoff worked in the Japanese financial markets for over 25 years. He spent 17 years with HSBC Securities’ Tokyo and was initially responsible for establishing the James Capel & Co. securities branch, the forerunner to HSBC Securities Tokyo branch. He began his career in equities with Grieveson, Grant and Co., setting up its Japanese equity research department in 1983.
Mr. Hoff has lived in Asia for over 35 years and speaks fluent Japanese.

Richard Welford, Chairman, CSR Asia
 |
Richard Welford is one of the founders and the chairman of CSR Asia based in Hong Kong. He is also a professor at the University of Hong Kong and a director of ERP Environment, a UK-based publisher.
Richard has twenty years of experience working in the fields of environmental management and social responsibility. He was one of the early pioneers in developing social audit and reporting methodologies with UK-based organisations such as The Body Shop, IBM and Eastern Electricity in the 1990s. From 2002 to 2010 Richard was a professor at the University of Hong Kong and headed up the Corporate Environmental Governance Programme. He has sat on the Swire Environmental Committee as an external adviser for the past four years and has undertaken consultancy work with a number of leading companies, including the MTR Corporation, Disney, CLP, Nike, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, HP, HSBC, Citigroup and Adidas.
Richard’s work has had a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability and social justice. Richard has worked with Cathay Pacific and the Swire group developing a climate change strategy. He has also worked on policies and implementation plans covering conservation and biodiversity. For Shangri-La Hotels he is developing initiatives not only covering environmental sustainability but also aspects of human rights and local community engagement. He has been an advocate of human rights auditing as a means of ensuring social justice and has undertaken assessments of the Freeport Human Rights audit in Papua.

Anand Nandakumar is an Associate Partner at Monitor Group based in Singapore, with 15 years’ experience in industry and consulting. Anand’s work has primarily focused on emerging market economic and social development, corporate growth strategy and sustainability. During his tenure at Monitor, Anand has worked in S.E. Asia, India, the Middle East and Africa and his industry experience includes Government, real estate, telecom, renewable energy, consumer goods and financial services. Recently, he also advised on Monitor’s work in identifying market-based solutions to meet the needs of ‘bottom of the pyramid’ consumers in Africa. Prior to Monitor, Anand has worked for Accenture and Hindustan Unilever Ltd., the Indian subsidiary of Unilever Plc. He has an MBA from IIM, Ahmadabad in India.

Andrew J. Sebastian, Head of Communications, Malaysian Nature Society (MNS)

Andrew J. Sebastian is at present the Head of Communications at MNS. A Law graduate, he joined the Society 14 years ago after a brief stint with a legal firm in Petaling Jaya. He spent much of his childhood in the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) where his father worked for the Forestry Department and went on to join the Society as a volunteer at a tender age of 14 and today, he serves the Society in the full time capacity involving practical and grass roots projects such as Conservation Campaigns to protect Belum Temengor, Bukit Larut, Tanjung Tuan, Bukit Gasing, Pulau Redang, Cameron Highlands and Sg. Buloh Forest Reserve. He also assists with Local Community Empowerment projects, as well as principally coordinating all media tools on behalf of MNS.

Andy Schroeter, Director, Sunlabob Renewable Energy, Ltd

Andy Schroeter, Sunlabob Director, is a German entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience in renewable energy, infrastructure and operational logistics. His 11 years of work in Laos with Sunlabob has had a significant effect on rural and country-wide infrastructural development, and he has proven to be able to provide commercially viable and affordable energy service to remote areas in Laos which are off the grid. His renewable energy projects have been recognized and awarded by the Development Marketplace of the World Bank in 2005, the German Solar Award 2005 and BBC World Challenge in 2006, awarded by the Ashden Award in 2007 and the African Lighting Award organized by the World Bank. In 2010, he won the Asian Entrepreneur Championship Award by the Schwab Foundation.

- Anthony Clymo, Vice President, Environment, Health, Safety and Security Asia Pacific, BASF

Mr Clymo has worked for BASF, the world’s leading chemical company, for 17 years and currently serves as the Vice President for Environment, Health, Safety and Security for the Asia Pacific region since 2009. Previously he has held various senior positions in the production and technology divisions of BASF in Australia, Malaysia and Hong Kong.
He obtained his Bachelor degree of Applied Science in Biochemistry from Latrobe University, Melbourne, Australia in 1993, and pursued further studies at the University of Michigan Business School in the United States.
He has presented at many international conferences focusing on safety and sustainability issues within the chemical industry.

Anuradha Bhavnani is a Regional Director with the Shell Foundation. Her focus is to build Enterprise based Solutions to poverty based issues, a shift from just traditional philanthropy. She has a Masters in Management with and has worked with a diverse group of companies of multinational businesses across more than 12 countries. She provides strategic inputs into the Global programs build on best practice sharing and also develops thought leadership in this area. She has also been an Advisor with the Rockefeller.
Her focus is to build in business thinking and discipline in solving Development needs and work to deliver on Triple Bottom Line benefits to take partnerships to build sustainability and also scale.

Ashvin Dayal, Managing Director, The Rockefeller Foundation, Asia Office

Ashvin Dayal joined the Rockefeller Foundation in 2008. As Managing Director, Asia, he manages the Foundation’s regional office based in Bangkok, Thailand, and oversees work across Asia, strengthening and complementing the Foundation’s initiatives around the globe.
Before joining the Foundation, Mr. Dayal held various senior policy, management and leadership roles with Oxfam Great Britain, starting there in 1993. He most recently headed their South Asia operations from New Delhi, India, where he was responsible for developing and managing strategy and programs focusing on disaster management, climate change resilience, private sector engagement, agricultural development, and promoting women's economic leadership. This involved overseeing a network of teams and offices in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal.
Previously, Mr. Dayal had been based in Thailand for six years as Oxfam’s East Asia Director where he led their largest-ever relief and recovery effort in the aftermath of the 2004 Tsunami in Aceh, Indonesia. In addition he led the development of their new regional strategy for addressing inclusion, equality and vulnerability in the context of rapid economic growth.

- Brian Ho, Director, CSR Asia China

Brian Chi-kuen Ho is the Director of CSR Asia’s China offices and manages business operations in mainland China. He has extensive experience in handling projects on sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR), and focuses on stakeholder engagement, sustainability reporting and management of corporate-NGO partnerships. Before joining CSR Asia, he worked as a researcher at the City University of Hong Kong and the Assistant Editor of the Hong Kong Journal of Social Sciences. He received his Bachelor of Social Sciences from City University of Hong Kong and a Master of Social Sciences at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of South Australia.

- Brian John Lariche, EXCO Secretary, Humana Child Aid Society

Within Humana Child Aid Society (HCASS), Brian serves as the secretary of the HCASS and as the main liaison person with Malaysian authorities. He also uses his background with the Palm Oil Industry in Social Impact Assessments to help design clearer working processes with the plantations where the Humana schools are run. Brian develops long term strategy for the HCASS with his colleagues on the Exco and is a member of the HCASS Board of Governors that oversees the design of a new training module for teachers.Currently, Brian is also an Exco member managing the restructuring of the society for closer cooperation with the local authorities.
On a professional level, Brian runs a CSR consultancy focusing on Community Development.He used to work within the UN system and currently consults with the UN and other international agencies. He sits on a variety of committees both locally and internationally and on numerous education boards.

Callum Douglas, Corporate Responsibility, China and Asia Pacific, PwC

Callum joined PwC China in 2008 to lead the strategy across PwC’s four areas of CR focus – Marketplace, People, Environment and Community.
In 2011 Callum’s role expanded to include the Asia Pacific region, working with PwC firms across the region to promote best practices and align regional strategies with PwC’s Global CR strategy.
Prior to joining PwC, Callum worked with Chinese grassroots NGOs in capacity building and corporate partnership roles; and with the United Nations and Beijing Communist Youth League on a Beijing Olympics project aimed at strengthening volunteering for development in China.
Callum holds a BA in Chinese and Asia Pacific Studies from Leeds University (UK), and a post graduate degree in Economics from the University of London.

Carla May Beriña-Kim, Head of Sustainable Development, Manila Water Company/ Executive Director, Manila Water Foundation

Carla May Beriña-Kim currently heads Manila Water Company’s Sustainable Development – Corporate Social Responsibility department. She is in charge of making sure that the company’s CSR programs continue to be aligned with strategy to its business needs and objectives. She also sets strategic directions on the development, implementation and monitoring of CSR programs under the three focus areas: water provision to the urban poor, water education, and environmental protection.
Carla was also appointed as the Executive Director of Manila Water Foundation, the additional CSR arm of Manila Water Company, to cater to Base of the Pyramid (BOP) communities outside its service area in Metro Manila. She was responsible for putting strategy and focus to the Foundation, as well as developing its three key programs.

Charito Medina, National Coordinator, MASIPAG, Pesticide Action Network-Asia Pacific

Charito Medina is national coordinator of MASIPAG, a network of farmers, scientists, and NGOs working for empowerment of resource-poor farmers in the Philippines. MASIPAG has 25 years experience in participatory and farmer-led research, breeding of crops, and indigenous livestock improvement.
He is also faculty in two universities in the Philippines teaching ecological systems and dynamics, as well as environment and natural resource management. He was involved as lead author in the International Assessment of Agricultural Science and Technology for Development (IAASTD)- ESAP subglobal assessment. His expertise include environment and food systems, biodiversity conservation, sustainable agriculture, participatory research and rural development. He received his Ph.D. in environmental biology from the University of Guelph, Canada.

Christopher Ong, Vice President Business Development, First Choice and GoGreen, DHL Asia Pacific

Mr. Christopher Ong is currently Vice President of Business Development, First Choice and GoGreen for DHL Asia Pacific. Based in Singapore, Chris is responsible for mergers and acquisitions, partnerships and planning, and is the head of First Choice, DHL’s Six-Sigma program and GoGreen, the group’s climate protection program, in the region. Prior to joining DHL in 2006, Chris spent about 10 years with Temasek Holdings, the Singapore Government-owned Sovereign Wealth Fund, where he was responsible for originating, evaluating and executing investments as well as managing and restructuring companies around the globe. At Temasek Holdings, he was involved in transactions in transport, logistics, telecom, media, technology, and manufacturing sectors. Chris graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Tufts University, USA.

- Darunee Edwards, President, Food Science and Technology Association of Thailand

Ms. Edwards has been the President of Food Science and Technology Association of Thailand. And during 2009-11, she was the President of the Federation of Institutes of Food Science and Technology in ASEAN.
She served as the Deputy Director of National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology with a primarily responsible for technology and intellectual properties knowledge transfer, managing the Food Research and Innovation Program and providing GMO facts to the public.
She has work experience in different dimensions both national and international levels in scientific agency, food and pharmaceutical MNC, local food manufacturers and researcher at Kasetsart University.
Recently, she has served on the executive committee of various agencies e.g., VP of the Agri and Food Business Committee of Thai Chamber of Commerce, National Food Committee of Ministry of Public Health, Agriculture Research Development Agency (Public Organisation) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
Ms. Edwards holds M Sc degree in FoodScience/Microbiology from the University of Rhode Island and B Sc (Honors) in Food Science and Technology from Kasetsart University.

Deanne Ong, Business Development Director, ORIGIN Exterminators Pte Ltd

Mrs. Deanne Ong is the Business Development Manager for the ORIGIN Group of companies. The range of companies she oversees has grown over the years from pest management to the manufacture of medical grade maggots for wound debridement. Deanne oversees the regional growth of the organisation and is instrumental in harnessing new revenue streams and growth opportunities for the company.
Deanne has served on several environmental associations both locally and in the region. In Singapore, she is currently serving her second year as the President of The Environmental Management Association of Singapore (EMAS).
Deanne’s is a strong advocator on CSR within ORIGIN and believes that this is a critical factor for growing her family business.

- Dermot O’Gorman, CEO,WWF Australia

Appointed as CEO of WWF-Australia in August 2010, Dermot O’Gorman brought a wealth of international experience and strong business acumen to the position, with previous roles held in Australia, the UK, Switzerland, the Pacific Islands and most recently as head of WWF-China.
Mr. O’Gorman has overseen major successes in WWF-Australia’s Market Transformations work; partnering with Coles Australia to improve seafood sustainability, as well as with ANZ to embed environmental sustainability into the financial institution’s decision-making.
Through practical engagement with over 50 multinational companies on sustainability, including HSBC, Coca-Cola, Walmart, China Mobile and the China Development Bank, he has worked to raise environmental awareness and improve practice. Mr. O’Gorman also sits on Woolworths’ Corporate Responsibility Panel, advising on sustainability strategies.

Detlef Krost, Executive Director, Technical & Production, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad

Mr. Detlef KROST, 49 years of age, was transferred from Nestec S.A., Switzerland to Nestlé Malaysia/Singapore effective 1st August 2009 as Executive Director, Technical & Production. He was also appointed to the Nestlé Malaysia Berhad Board effective the same date.
Mr. Krost, a Food Technologist with an Engineering degree, started his career with Nestlé Germany in 1984 as Production Manager. After 8 years working in various chocolate confectionery factories, he joined the Nestlé Productivity Team in Vevey, Switzerland, firstly as Project Coordinator, then as Head of the Nestlé Productivity Team. He returned to Nestlé Germany in 1996 as Factory Manager in Hamburg and then in Berlin. In 2001 he became GLOBE Business Excellence Manager for Technical, Production and R&D based in Vevey. Switzerland. He was then appointed Technical Manager for Nestlé Waters in Europe, based in Paris, from 2003. In 2007 he returned to Vevey, Switzerland as Technical Manager of the Chocolate, Confectionery & Biscuit Strategic Business Unit.

Erin Lyon, Executive Director, CSR Asia

Erin Lyon is an Executive Director of CSR Asia based in Singapore. Erin is a qualified solicitor in England and Wales, having trained with and worked for the international law firm, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer both in Europe and Asia. Erin has been working in Asia for over seven years and has lived and worked in Indonesia as well as Singapore.
Erin has advised Asian, US and European companies on Corporate Social Responsibility. Recent clients have included HP, Dell, DHL, Bursa Malaysia (the Stock Exchange of Malaysia), CDL and Singapore Petroleum Company with projects including CSR disclosure, stakeholder engagement, community investment, ISO26000 and sustainable supply chains. Erin has a strong interest in the development of CSR in Asia and has worked with clients to assess the changing regulations and voluntary agreements that are developing in Asia and the impact they have on operations. She also focuses on the development of CSR disclosure in Asia and is responsible for the Asian Sustainability RatingTM. Erin is also an elected member of the GRI Stakeholder Council.
As well as advising companies and other organizations, Erin is an adjunct at the Singapore Management University School of Law, lecturing in Ethics and Social Responsibility and she has also taught Corporate Governance at SAICSA.

Gernot Laganda, Regional Technical Advisor, Climate Change Adaptation, UNDP

Gernot Laganda is UNDP’s Technical Advisor for Climate Change Adaptation in the Asia-Pacific region. In this capacity, he is responsible for the design and implementation of projects which help countries reduce the impacts of climate change on human and economic development. Prior to joining the UNDP Regional Center in Bangkok, Gernot held positions with the Austrian Development Agency, UNDP South Africa and a number of non-governmental organizations. He has lived, worked and travelled extensively in Sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia and the United States. A geotechnical engineer by training, Gernot holds postgraduate diplomas in Disaster Management, Public Policy and International Development Cooperation.

Graeme Ham, Director of Human Resources, Accor Hotels - New Zealand and Fiji

Graeme Ham is Accor’s Director of Human Resources for the New Zealand and Fiji region, a position he has held for 12 years. His previous regional HR management experience includes 12 years with Southern Pacific Hotel Corporation (SPHC), where he spent two years in Australia, six years in South East Asia and four years in New Zealand.
In his current role for Accor, Graeme has overall responsibility for general management of the HR function, including recruitment, talent management and career development, skills and brand training, risk management, employment relations, HR information systems and personnel practices in New Zealand & Fiji. In addition to the above, Graeme has responsibility for Risk Management, Crisis Management and Corporate Social Responsibility in his region. He is a Director of the Hospitality Standards Institute representing the Accommodation Sector.

Guillaume Lorcy, Marketing Manager, PT Sari Husada, Baby Nutrition Division, Danone Group

Guillaume started working as an engineer for a public work company in 2002. He then joined in 2005 the Master Degree in Sustainable Development Management of HEC Paris.
In 2006, Guillaume was recruited by Danone Group. He participated actively to the Grameen Danone project in Bangladesh: a BoP* initiative aiming at distributing healthy, nutritious yet affordable yogurts to low income consumers, thanks to a breakthrough proximity business model.
After 2 years in the marketing team of Danone Biscuit Division in France, he moved to Indonesia at the end of 2008 to integrate PT Sari Husada, a subsidiary of Danone Baby-Nutrition Division. There, he launched a new brand called Gizikita in order to help address malnutrition issues by delivering affordable nutritious products and education towards nutrition to BoP mothers and children.

Iriani Zulkifli, Corporate Responsibility Specialist, Corporate Affairs, Talisman Malaysia Limited
 |
Iriani Zulkifli joined Talisman in June 2009 focusing on new country entry for Papua New Guinea. She now dedicates her time to Malaysian operations managing socio-political relationship risks, stakeholder engagement and community investment programs.
Having graduated with an honors law degree from the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, she has over 13 years experience in multinational and local organizations in advisory and developmental roles. As Microsoft Malaysia’s Community Affairs Manager, she managed the grants and software donation programs, employee volunteering and disaster relief assistance for Malaysia. As trainer and advisor to the Institute of Foreign Affairs, Lao PDR, she focused on a special program for senior government officials.
Prior to Laos, as the training & quality control manager for the charities division of a diversified regional company, Iriani developed training material, trained and evaluated fundraising representatives. Earlier in her career she was involved in social impact research in Papua New Guinea.

- Kuan-Chun Lee, Senior Scientist, Procter & Gamble Company

Dr. Kuan-Chun Lee is a Senior Scientist in Environmental Stewardship Organization, Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs (PS&RA) of Procter & Gamble’s Singapore Innovation Center. He is responsible for Asia PS&RA Environmental Sustainability leading the sustainable innovation assessment. Dr. Lee has been active and given invited talks on environmental risk assessment, sustainable innovation strategy/assessment improving product life cycle footprints on water, energy, carbon emission, and solid waste, and integrated solid waste management (ISWM). He led P&G LCA team joining WRI/WBCSD 2010 Road Testing Program on the Greenhouse Gas Product Accounting & Reporting Standard. Dr. Lee is currently in Asia Pacific Board of Directors of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), and a Steering Team member of SETAC Advisory Group on Sustainability.

- Leena Wokeck, Director, CSR Asia Center at the Asian Institute of Technology Thailand

Leena’s expertise is in the area of sustainable development, responsible business strategy, and sustainability reporting. She has worked with sustainability experts, CSR practitioners, and international and civil society organizations worldwide, and advised organizations of various sectors and sizes on CSR strategy development, stakeholder engagement, and reporting processes. Having previously worked for the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), she has in-depth knowledge of the GRI reporting framework.
Since moving to Bangkok in 2009, her focus is now mainly on working with companies in Asia and especially Southeast Asia on the implementation of effective and innovative sustainability solutions. Through the unique set up between academia and practice of the CSRACA she leads research projects on cutting edge issues and trends for the role of the private sector in sustainable development in Asia and works on developing and delivering training and executive education programs.
Leena holds an MSc in International Relations and Transnational Governance from the VU Amsterdam, the Netherlands, a BA in International Studies from the University of Birmingham, UK, and has studied Cultural Anthropology and International Law at the University of Cologne, Germany.

Lian Tiong Gan, Head, Sustainability Department, PT Musim Mas

Involved with the palm oil industry since 1975 and currently the Head of Sustainability and is responsible for implementing and monitoring of sustainability practices in group plantations since 2007. Responsible for the Musim Mas’ Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, Supply Chain Certification and International Sustainability and Carbon Certification programmes.
Prior to coming to Indonesia, served Sime Darby Plantations from 1975-2004 and in Kuala Lumpur Kepong in Malaysia from 2004 – 2007. Serves as members of the RSPO Biodiversity-HCV and Greenhouse Gas Working Groups; and previously, also served as members of the RSPO Criteria Working Group and RSPO Verification Working Group.

Lynette Ryan, CSR Director, PepsiCo Asia Pacific

Lynette Ryan was appointed Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Director, PepsiCo Asia Pacific, in 2008. In her current role, Lynette is responsible for the development and implementation of PepsiCo Asia Pacific’s regional CSR strategy, including providing direction and support for the CSR agenda at both regional headquarters level, and within PepsiCo Asia Pacific’s local business units.
Lynette has been integral in establishing grass roots community investment programs. In particular, in conjunction with the team in PepsiCo Philippines, Lynette led the development of Waterhope, PepsiCo Philippines’ social franchise community program, established in 2007, to provide clean, safe water for under privileged communities. Dr. Kern studied zoology, botany, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, wine chemistry and genetics at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany, and earned his doctorate there in 1982.
In 1984 he joined Hoechst (later Bayer CropScience), in the Biological Research Department (Crop Protection) in the areas of insect physiology, resistance, selectivity and integrated pest management. He later transferred to other areas of Biological Research, where he was concerned mainly with applied insect physiology and pharmacology, product support, integrated pest management and crop management, and genetically modified plants. In 1995 he became global head of the project "Future of Agriculture: Vision 2025/2050", a comprehensive and still running study on the safeguarding of world food supplies. From 1998 to 1999, Dr. Kern was in charge of the Scientific Communication and Integrated Pest Management Group, and in 2000 became Head of Global Technology Communication in the Technology Strategy & Resources Unit.
From 2005 Dr. Kern was Global Head of Business Relations and since 2010 he is Head of Project: Agriculture 2025 at Bayer CropScience.

Michael P. He is principle co-author of "A Climate for Life: Meeting the Global Challenge", an interdisciplinary perspective on preventing catastrophic climate change and human-triggered species extinction, and ending poverty while greening robust economic growth. Totten received the Lewis Mumford Prize for Environment in 2000 for pioneering the creation of interactive multimedia CDs and Internet tools for spurring ecologically sustainable green development. In 1989 he drafted the 12-title 1989 Global Warming Prevention Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. Totten has given over 2000 talks worldwide in the past 3 decades.

Mimi Groenbech is Chief Technical Adviser on Local Economic Development for the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Vietnam. Her work focuses on promoting enterprise development with the purpose of creating sound links between companies and along value chains to optimise cooperation and generate jobs, better conditions and economic opportunities, especially for the weaker and less empowered stakeholders in the value chain.
For about 12 years, Mimi Groenbech has worked with private sector development and CSR internationally. She has a BSc in economics and an MSc in international business and development studies, both from Copenhagen Business School. Before joining the ILO, she worked for different international organisations, including UNCTAD, UNIDO and DANIDA, where she continuously has added to her experience concerning sustainable enterprise development.

Born in 1965 in Japan, he got BSc, MSc and PhD from The University of Tokyo. Nenny Soemawinata was born in India on 31st of January 1954. She spent most of her early years living overseas and return to Indonesia after completing her studies at the Auckland Technical Institute, New Zealand, in Computer Programming in 1976.
Prior to joining the Putera Sampoerna Foundation as the Managing Director, Nenny has an extensive experience in the communications industry. She was the President Director of Ogilvy & Mather in Jakarta, Indonesia and left the company in 1996 to join a private commercial station, ANTEVE as CEO.
In 1999, she joined RCTI, the leading television network in Indonesia as Director of Operations.
In 2008, she moved to Malaysia and worked for UTV Malaysia to assist in developing a second pay TV service. She returned to Jakarta in 2009 and joined the Putera Sampoerna Foundation until now.

Richard Welford, Chairman, CSR Asia

Richard Welford is one of the founders and the chairman of CSR Asia based in Hong Kong. He is also a professor at the University of Hong Kong and a director of ERP Environment, a UK-based publisher.
Richard has twenty years of experience working in the fields of environmental management and social responsibility. He was one of the early pioneers in developing social audit and reporting methodologies with UK-based organisations such as The Body Shop, IBM and Eastern Electricity in the 1990s. From 2002 to 2010 Richard was a professor at the University of Hong Kong and headed up the Corporate Environmental Governance Programme. He has sat on the Swire Environmental Committee as an external adviser for the past four years and has undertaken consultancy work with a number of leading companies, including the MTR Corporation, Disney, CLP, Nike, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, HP, HSBC, Citigroup and Adidas.
Richard’s work has had a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability and social justice. Richard has worked with Cathay Pacific and the Swire group developing a climate change strategy. He has also worked on policies and implementation plans covering conservation and biodiversity. For Shangri-La Hotels he is developing initiatives not only covering environmental sustainability but also aspects of human rights and local community engagement. Rikke Netterstrom is an Executive Director of CSR Asia based in Malaysia. Rikke has over 15 years multi-sector experience in corporate responsibility strategy, stakeholder engagement and communications. At CSR Asia, her focus is on Board-level engagement to promote responsible business practices at major Asian and international companies.
Prior to this, she was responsible for environmental and social issues for two of the world’s sustainability leader - The Body Shop International plc and Novozymes A/S, preparing strategies for over 50 markets globally. Dr. Thomas Tang is currently the Regional Corporate Sustainability Director for AECOM in Asia. Mr. Viraf Mehta is a social anthropologist by training and has been at the forefront of the CSR field in India since 1988. He was amongst the earliest professionals from the ‘social/development sector’ in India to translate this interest into formal employment with the private sector- with Tata Group from 1986-2000, where he was responsible for overseeing several aspects of one of India’s best known models of corporate community investment. He served as the Chief Executive of Partners in Change from May 2002 to March 2010. During this period Mr. Mehta contributed significantly to the UN SRSG’s Human Rights and Business mandate, and to the localization of the agenda in India through the Global Compact and other important initiatives in the country.
During the past decade Mr. Mehta has served on several National Committees with regards to the development of domestic corporate responsibility norms and standards, as well as their equivalents in the NGO sector. During 2004 to 2009 in various capacities, at International Resources for Fair Trade and Shop for Change, Betsy has developed and implemented fair trade marketing strategies, advocated and coordinated development of certification systems for Fair Trade in India. Betsy joined fair trade movement after gaining successful experience with Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd., India for about eight years.

Mr. Hans Olsen assumed the leadership of UNICEF’s country program in Malaysia in February 2010, having completed a successful two-year term as the Deputy Director of UNICEF’s Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division in Geneva, Switzerland.
During his time as Deputy Director, Mr. Olsen was responsible for UNICEF’s strategic partnership with National Committees in industrialised countries, building support for UNICEF’s mandate and work for children through Fundraising, Advocacy, Education for Development and Communication.
During 2002 and 2007, Mr. Olsen served UNICEF as the Deputy Regional Director for Europe, responsible for the development of policies, strategies and tools for UNICEF’s collaboration with National Committees worldwide as well as for regional initiatives involving government partners, intergovernmental organisations, parliamentarians and NGOs.

Jean-Michel Dumont, Chairman, Ruder Finn Asia

In 2011, Jean-Michel Dumont marked his 26th year in Asia, and his expertise has helped Ruder Finn to become one of the top five international PR agencies in the China market and a recognized leader in several areas, including automotive, healthcare and corporate programs. He created the first dedicated CSR team in a PR agency China and launched the ‘Tsinghua-Ruder Finn CSR Program’ with Tsinghua University in Beijing.
He was promoted to Chairman of Ruder Finn Asia at the end of 2008. In his new role, he is responsible for the growth and development of Ruder Finn Asia, devising Asia-wide strategic direction for Ruder Finn and setting the tone on how Ruder Finn Asia business is managed.

Mr. Ushijima is responsible for managing global CSR strategy for the Hitachi Group. He developes and leads the implementation of CSR sustainability strategy at the corporate level by incorporating social and environmental issues clarified though stakeholder engagement and the process of materiality, and directs the application of the CSR strategy to the Hitachi Group globally. The focus is in working with top management to link strategic CSR with corporate business strategy to better inform decision makers in aligning the business to solve fundamental global issues. The key roles of CSR are to support business development that links between social issues and business solutions, to improve quality of management, moreover, comprehensive risk management and effective communications. Manfred held several executive roles in the high-tech industry including Senior Vice President of SAP AG,
where he led the SRM business and global partner management. Prior to SAP he founded Goodex AG,
where he served as CEO. The company was acquired by Ariba Inc. in 2003.

managed international business networks with focus on co-innovation and collaborative sales.

Michelle Brown is the Director of the European office and based in the UK. She has 15 years of experience across sectors working on sustainable development and has also lived in Hong Kong, mainland China, Vietnam and Canada working on these issues.
Michelle has worked with a range of companies and organisations on CSR strategy and implementation, impact assessment and evaluation, stakeholder engagement, community involvement and development and human rights. Clients have included the adidas-Group, CLP, Cairn Energy, CARE, PepsiCo, Procter and Gamble, the Asian Development Bank, Oxfam and the United Nations. She also works as a consultant with the ILO/IFC Better Work programme in Vietnam. Previous to moving to the UK, Michelle headed up CSR Asia’s community investment work based out of Hong Kong where she developed a Community Investment Scorecard to fit with other measurement systems for companies to better understand the impact for the business and the community. She is a skilled trainer and facilitator and has been involved with a range of projects aiming to build internal capacity to manage difficult issues.
In addition to her work at CSR Asia has been working on a PhD at the University of Hong Kong focussed on CSR and impact assessment in developing countries.

- Nenny Soemawinata, Managing Director, Putera Sampoerna Foundation

Nenny Soemawinata was born in India on 31st of January 1954. She spent most of her early years living overseas and return to Indonesia after completing her studies at the Auckland Technical Institute, New Zealand, in Computer Programming in 1976.
Prior to joining the Putera Sampoerna Foundation as the Managing Director, Nenny has an extensive experience in the communications industry. She was the President Director of Ogilvy & Mather in Jakarta, Indonesia and left the company in 1996 to join a private commercial station, ANTEVE as CEO.
In 1999, she joined RCTI, the leading television network in Indonesia as Director of Operations.
In 2008, she moved to Malaysia and workded for UTV Malaysia to assist in developing a second pay TV service. She returned to Jakarta in 2009 and joined the Putera Sampoerna Foundation until now.

Brian Chi-kuen Ho is the Director of CSR Asia’s China offices and manages business operations in mainland China. He has extensive experience in handling projects on sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR), and focuses on stakeholder engagement, sustainability reporting and management of corporate-NGO partnerships. Before joining CSR Asia, he worked as a researcher at the City University of Hong Kong and the Assistant Editor of the Hong Kong Journal of Social Sciences. He received his Bachelor of Social Sciences from City University of Hong Kong and a Master of Social Sciences at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of South Australia.

JJacqui is a specialist in the areas of sustainability reporting, strategy development and carbon footprinting. Through her work in various countries she has developed experience in environmental policy, international development work and CSR. She has worked as a consultant and advisor to: Cathay Pacific, PCCW, CLP, VF Corporation, KPMG, Sun Hung Kai Properties, Hopewell Holdings, Bank of China (Hong Kong) and Oxfam Hong Kong and has carried out training for various companies and organisations.
Jacqui has project managed and written Sustainability Reports for a number of Asian multinational companies. She has also co-ordinated stakeholder engagement exercises and carbon audits on behalf of a large number of clients. Prior to joining CSR Asia Jacqui completed sustainable development projects in the European Commission, Vodafone, the National Consumer Council and Channel 4. In the UK she conducted research for Green Alliance, a UK public policy/environmental think tank. In 2004 she lived and worked in Nepal co-ordinating a community resource programme, and in South Africa she led a youth-focused environmental project in one of Cape Town’s largest townships.
As Director of CSR Asia Hong Kong office, Jacqui oversees Hong Kong operations, develops relationships with key clients and leads on consultancy projects. She also conducts CSR Asia’s training course on Business Strategies for Climate Change.

Jochen Weikert studied Sociology, Economics and History at the Universities Darmstadt and Berlin. He did Post-Graduate Studies at the German Development Institute and attained a PhD degree from the University Duisburg-Essen. Since 2004, he headed CSR-related projects in China, Latin-America and with a global scope on behalf of German development cooperation. Since 2009, Jochen Weikert is in charge of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at the Private Sector Cooperation unit of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

Gabriel Chong is a Senior Project Manager at CSR Asia Malaysia. Since joining CSR Asia, he has worked on reputational risk research, community investment opportunities, sector benchmarking, stakeholder engagement and surveys. He also supports work on writing of sustainability reports, training, and organising the CSR Wednesday briefings in Malaysia.
Gabriel holds a Bachelor in Communications and a Masters in Social Work. He has managed projects addressing social issues ranging from mental healthcare, urban poverty to HIV/AIDS while living in the US, UK and Malaysia. Prior to joining CSR Asia, Gabriel was the Communication Officer at the Malaysia office of Wetlands International. He taught social work at a Malaysian university, conducted and published research papers. Gabriel took a brief sabbatical from the NGO community and spent two years in the corporate sector.

Leena’s expertise is in the area of sustainable development, responsible business strategy, and sustainability reporting. She has worked with sustainability experts, CSR practitioners, and international and civil society organizations worldwide, and advised organizations of various sectors and sizes on CSR strategy development, stakeholder engagement, and reporting processes. Having previously worked for the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), she has in-depth knowledge of the GRI reporting framework.
Since moving to Bangkok in 2009, her focus is now mainly on working with companies in Asia and especially Southeast Asia on the implementation of effective and innovative sustainability solutions. Through the unique set up between academia and practice of the CSRACA she leads research projects on cutting edge issues and trends for the role of the private sector in sustainable development in Asia and works on developing and delivering training and executive education programs.
Leena holds an MSc in International Relations and Transnational Governance from the VU Amsterdam, the Netherlands, a BA in International Studies from the University of Birmingham, UK, and has studied Cultural Anthropology and International Law at the University of Cologne, Germany.

- Lisette van Rhijn, Director of Community Investment, CSR Asia

As Director of Community Investment, Lisette is responsible for CSR Asia’s Community Investment advisory and for the Community Investment Round Table (CIRT). She has worked with companies such as Hong Kong Disneyland, Cathay Pacific, Credit Suisse and Starbucks on their community investment strategies and related topics.
Prior to joining CSR Asia in Hong Kong, Lisette worked for NCDO, an Amsterdam-based NGO. For NCDO Lisette managed the private sector program, which aimed to stimulate the Dutch private sector to engage in innovative sustainable business initiatives in emerging economies. In this capacity she worked with European companies like Rabobank, KLM, Heineken and AkzoNobel, on impact measurement and Bottom of the Pyramid projects. She developed the MDG Scan, an online self-assessment scan for companies to measure the contribution of their core business and community investment to the Millennium Development Goals.
Lisette holds an MSc in Construction Management and worked previously for five years as Construction Manager for Corus, the Anglo-Dutch steel company. Prior to that, she worked as a construction project manager on several city development projects in the Netherlands.

Mabel Wong is the Community Investment Senior Project Manager, working primarily on Community Investment related projects.
Mabel has over 7 years experience in the NGO sector focusing on children’s issues, in particular, children in need of special protection such as street children, children in conflict with the law (juvenile justice) and child soldiers. Her last four years was spent in an Asia-Pacific regional role networking with senior government representatives, NGOs, corporates and UN bodies, providing technical assistance to countries starting up national child protection initiatives.
Mabel holds a BA (Political Science and Psychology) NUS and a MPA (Policy, Public and Non-Profit Program) from the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, New York University.

- Mara Chiorean, Project Manager, CSR Asia

Mara Chiorean is a Project Manager in the Hong Kong office. She is responsible for coordinating consultancy projects in the areas of corporate carbon emission inventories, climate change services and other environmental management projects. She also contributes to CSR Asia’s training modules and research.
Mara is a Romanian and lived in Germany, Italy and Singapore before arriving in Hong Kong. Her background is diverse, having worked in both private sector (market research, telecommunications) and not for profit sectors in education and SRI (sustainable and responsible investment).
Before joining CSR Asia she was working with ASrIA (Association for Sustainable and Responsible Investment in Asia) where she contributed to the Carbon Disclosure Project 2010 Asia ex-Japan. She has also previously interned at CSR Asia, working on research projects pertaining to CSR disclosure issues of Asian companies. She has extensive experience in training in the NGO sector in Romania.
She has a masters degree in Environmental and Energy Management at Bocconi University in Italy, and was an Economics graduate in Romania.

- Monica Marshall, Head of Global Private Partnerships, World Food Programme

Monica and her team work with a myriad of global and local companies forging partnerships in the areas of food/nutrition, supply chain, logistics, technology and emergency relief. Over the past three years, over $375 million in cash has been generated to improve food security of millions of men, women and children and an additional US$120 million has been secured in-kind services such as advocacy to end hunger and malnutrition, emergency training and logistics support. Marshall helped spearhead the development of a global ten year strategy and led the creation of a series of tools needed to deliver on the strategy.
Prior to joining WFP, Marshall was a Senior Vice President of Omnicom-owned Ketchum Communications. During her ten years at Ketchum, Marshall was responsible for the development and implementation of global communications campaigns around major issues such as human trafficking, education and Medicare, privatization of state-owned industries and economic development primarily in Africa.

- Richard Welford, Chairman, CSR Asia

Richard Welford is one of the founders and the chairman of CSR Asia based in Hong Kong. He is also a professor at the University of Hong Kong and a director of ERP Environment, a UK-based publisher.
Richard has twenty years of experience working in the fields of environmental management and social responsibility. He was one of the early pioneers in developing social audit and reporting methodologies with UK-based organisations such as The Body Shop, IBM and Eastern Electricity in the 1990s. From 2002 to 2010 Richard was a professor at the University of Hong Kong and headed up the Corporate Environmental Governance Programme. He has sat on the Swire Environmental Committee as an external adviser for the past four years and has undertaken consultancy work with a number of leading companies, including the MTR Corporation, Disney, CLP, Nike, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, HP, HSBC, Citigroup and Adidas.
Richard’s work has had a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability and social justice. Richard has worked with Cathay Pacific and the Swire group developing a climate change strategy. He has also worked on policies and implementation plans covering conservation and biodiversity. For Shangri-La Hotels he is developing initiatives not only covering environmental sustainability but also aspects of human rights and local community engagement. He has been an advocate of human rights auditing as a means of ensuring social justice and has undertaken assessments of the Freeport Human Rights audit in Papua.

Rikke Netterstrom is an Executive Director of CSR Asia based in Malaysia. Rikke has over 15 years multi-sector experience in corporate responsibility strategy, stakeholder engagement and communications. At CSR Asia, her focus is on Board-level engagement to promote responsible business practices at major Asian and international companies.
Prior to this, she was responsible for environmental and social issues for two of the world’s sustainability leader - The Body Shop International plc and Novozymes A/S, preparing strategies for over 50 markets globally. As an investment analyst and a public affairs consultant, she provided advisory services to multinational companies within a range of sectors, including consumer goods, agrichemicals and financial institutions. She has worked extensively throughout Europe, Asia and the Americas, delivering workshops at Board and senior management level in China, Malaysia, Hong Kong and the US. Rikke was closely involved in the creation of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil as an Executive Board member, and recently served as Interim Secretary General of the organisation. She holds an MSc in International Business from Copenhagen Business School and postgraduate qualifications from Thammasat University, Thailand.

- Stephen Frost, Executive Director, CSR Asia

Stephen Frost is one of the co-founders and an executive director of CSR Asia. He is also an assistant professor at the Department of Asian and International Studies at the City University of Hong Kong. He is in high demand as a speaker internationally, has consulted for numerous companies, governments and multilateral organisations, and is widely published. He is regularly interviewed by local and international media organisations, and he sits on the advisory boards of major corporations and CSR initiatives internationally.
Stephen has been involved in CSR in the Asia-Pacific region since 2000, when he moved to Hong Kong. Since that time, he has focused on issues surrounding supply chains and workplace standards. He has worked with numerous local and multinational companies on a host of other issues, ranging from consulting on the implementation of CSR systems to factory training and stakeholder dialogue.
He developed and taught the first CSR modules in MBA programs in Chinese universities, developed and taught the first undergraduate CSR course in Asia, and along with his co-founder offered the first public training of CSR in the Asia-Pacific. He helped develop an innovative factory training program for Chinese factories, and led a team to develop capacity building for Chinese organizations to deliver service to companies in supply chains. He is a recognised pioneer in CSR in Asia
