This time next week we will be gearing up for the CSR Asia Summit. If anyone has doubts about coming then this article points to the fact that tourists are not being put off by the political squabbles and border dispute. It says people are continuing to visit Thailand in record numbers despite the tensions. I have been here all weekend preparing for the Summit and it is all very much business as usual. Tourists seem to be attracted because of cut price deals by tour operators in Europe with package hoilidays for as little as US$800 including flghts.

The business sector has hailed the decision taken on Sunday by the caretaker government to lift the state of emergency in Bangkok.  Dusit Nontanakorn, vice-chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, said the government had made the right decision, and that it would go a long way to restoring confidence among investors, business travellers and tourists.  It is also good news for CSR Asia’s annual summit which will take place on November 3 and 4 at the Asian Institute of Technology 40km to the north of Bangkok in Pathum Thani province.  More here and here.

We understand international concerns about current safety and security in Thailand, and are monitoring the situation closely. Please note that the protests are limited to a couple of streets around Government House in downtown Bangkok; business in the rest of Bangkok is unaffected by the protests. The Asian Institute of Technology, our partner and the venue for the event, is located 40 km to the north of Bangkok, in peaceful Pathum Thani province. We will keep you posted on the latest developments in the political situation in the weeks running up to the event, and do not expect there to be any disruption to the CSR Asia Summit.

On the relationship between communication and CSR Stephen has the final word: “If your aim is to make yourself look good, eventually you will come to a dead end.”
